A.A. Badenhorst
The Curator Red
PRAISE
Like a symphony conductor who moonlights as a rock star, turning wild Swartland fruit into pure velvet anarchy.
- Description
- Grapes, Region, etc.
Big personality, no pretension. "The Curator" is juicy, spicy, and loaded with dark berries, cherry cola, and dried herbs. It's a Rhone-inspired blend (mostly Shiraz, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Grenache) from the Swartland's dry-farmed bush vines, made with minimal intervention and maximum soul. Think ripe fruit with dusty tannins and a wildflower vibe that makes it perfect for late dinners and lively conversations.
Hein and Adi Badenhorst, the brilliant cousins behind Badenhorst Family Wines, have farming in their blood. Hailing from the rural town of Constantina in South Africa, they grew up working alongside their fathers and grandfather, learning the ins and outs of agriculture from a young age. In fact, Adi even helped make his first vintage at the tender age of 13!
After a few years of winemaking in Stellenbosch, the cousins stumbled upon a forgotten vineyard and winery that had been abandoned since the 1930s. Instead of letting it go to waste, they saw the potential in this forgotten gem and decided to bring it back to life. It was a massive undertaking, but with passion, hard work, and dedication, they were able to restore the vineyard and winery to its former glory.
