Alpha Toscana Rosso

This is a wine with presence-built from Sangiovese's backbone (55%), Cabernet Sauvignon's structure (35%), and the wild card of Malvasia Nero (10%) that adds its own mysterious depth. The vineyards tell their own story through silex and fossilized clay soils that lend a distinctive mineral thread throughout. Eight months in varied-sized casks have given the wine just enough oak integration to frame the fruit without overwhelming it, creating something substantial enough for a special dinner yet approachable enough for a Tuesday night when you want something more than ordinary. Alpha strikes that sweet spot where power meets elegance, finishing with a silky persistence that lingers long after the glass is empty-the kind of wine that makes you pause mid-conversation to appreciate what just happened on your palate.

Under the guidance of the original owners, Willi and Doris Neukom, Montepeloso established itself as one of Tuscany's most exciting estates, earning 5 stars from Robert Parker. In 1998, however, the estate was sold to Fabio Chiarelotto, a Swiss-Italian historian.

Chiarelotto was entranced with the Neukom's wines, but he was convinced that they fell short of the terroir's true potential. While a unique site is important for great wine, an inspired winemaker is also required. The introspective Chiarelotto had little interest in the guidance of fashionable enologists. He was determined to follow his own path- and he brought with him a clear vision of the singular wines he felt the estate could yield. A growing number of collectors see Montepeloso's wines as the most beautiful, profound, and expressive of the Tuscan New Wave.
