La Guardiense Janare Lucchero Aglianico 2017
This is a delicious, well structured Aglianico, the premier grape of southern Italy.
Grapes: 100% Aglianico
Region: Campania, Italy
Violet, blueberry, stewed-blackberry and dried-herb aromas. Crushed stones too. It’s medium to full-bodied with firm, powdery tannins and a creamy, well-rounded finish.
Established in 1960, La Guardiense is an important co-op located in the district of Sannio, northeast of Naples in the dramatic landscape of Italy’s Campania province. Strikingly poor in the post war years, the co-op helped lift the region from poverty by providing a reliable market for local growers’ grapes.
Today, La Guardiense has become an environment in which many other local wineries benefit from improved research and resources, with continual investments in improving long-term quality of vine and wine. La Guardiense brought the renowned winemaker and consultant Riccardo Cotarella to the co-op in 2010. Since then, Cotarella has directed vineyard and winemaking to help make La Guardiense one of the most highly-regarded wineries in Campania.
